Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day (#TKMBD), presented by Subaru, is IMBA’s largest, one-day annual event and brings together kids big and small to celebrate the joy of riding bikes on trails. This year was the twelfth edition and drew more than 15,000 participants at 206 events across the U.S. and in nine other countries: Australia, Austria, Canada, Macedonia, Italy, England, Mexico, the Netherlands and Panama. To see photos from the events, visit our TKMBD Gallery.
Thanks to support of Specialized Bicycles, five lucky participants will each bring home a new bicycle for their child. The Bix family, Pike family, Reyes family, Lemoine family and Coudret family were randomly selected to win our Specialized bike giveaway. After giving these lucky winners the good news, we received feedback on their new bikes:
- It’s cool because now I can go off jumps on my sick new bike.
- I’ll ride my new bike everywhere, especially at Valmont Bike Park in Boulder.
- I’m going to ride to the playground and to the mountains with my dad!
After the success of previous TKMBD events, we are excited to announce that we will be having our first annual spring edition of TKMBD next year. The official date is June 11, 2016, but other dates may be acceptable depending on seasonal conditions and other events occurring in your region.
A huge thanks to all of the volunteers, IMBA chapters and affiliated organizations, land management agencies, bike shops, community organizations and others who made Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day happen, and to Specialized, Clif Bar and Subaru for their sponsorship support. Today’s young mountain bikers are tomorrow’s land managers, community leaders, trail builders and trail advocates!
