2016 Board Announcement March 8, 2016
Dear NITRO Members,
It is with much excitement that I announce our new NITRO Board of Directors for 2016:
President – Sara Wright
Vice President – Diana de Carranza
Secretary(s) – Joe and Julie Pressler
Treasurer – Open, still vacant
Webmaster – Drew Austin
Our lead trail crew will be announced in the coming weeks. It has been an honor to serve as a founder and President the past three and a half years. We have grown from a small group of five back in 2012 to now close to 100 members! With the help of our parent organization International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) we have brought education, outreach, and community service and introduced our passion of mountain biking to northeastern Indiana.
Sharing new skills to care for the land by building sustainable, well-maintained trails we have the opportunity to experience nature with friends and families exercising together and athletes competing together. With the help of IMBA and our corporate supporters we have brought professional trail builders to Fort Wayne to teach our crews best practice techniques in building a trail that will be sustainable in all types of weather. And with the help of many volunteers we have been able to serve in the community of Fort Wayne by participating in organized events and festivals. 2015 also brought three newly certified ICP Skills Coaches/Ride Leaders to our crew. It has been so exciting to see our organization grow and become a larger part of the bicycling community.
As our management team changes we would like to thank all of our past officers:
Jim Rattie, Sarah Farver-Staub, Adam Evans, Shaun Malinoski
We would also like to recognize our main corporate supporters:
Summit City Bicycles and Fitness
Ft. Wayne Parks and Recreation
Northern IN Fuel & Light
Human Motor Works
Don Hall’s Guesthouse
Ft. Wayne Outfitters and Bike Depot
Subaru and IMBA!
Knot Just Decks
And we have five volunteers who have all logged over 100 hours of their time with NITRO:
Diana de Carranza – 249 hours
Martín Carranza – 241 hours
Paul Bishop – 149 hours
Wade Fromholt – 136 hours
Randy Rozewicz – 119 hours
Volunteerism Pays: In Indiana one volunteer hour equals $21.56. In 2015, 52 NITRO volunteers logged 1521 hours! That is equivalent to $32,793! This is important because not only does it show our community leaders our dedication but in the event that we need to raise funds for special projects these “dollars” can be used towards grant possibilities for future trails.
